A major challenge facing the education industry is how to leverage student data to improve student outcomes and remain competitive whilst protecting the students privacy. This session will describe a collaborative research project between two of Australia's leading Learning Analytics and Data Privacy research organisations and two global education services providers to apply the latest privacy-preserving analytics techniques to student learning data. With this solution in place, educators will be able to make fuller use of their student data for innovation and competition while also measurably improving its safety. The project builds on an earlier collaboration between two of the project partners in the identification of student learning strategies and development of personalised interventions for online students. This is the first use-case for this privacy-preserving analytics solution, which resulted in improved student outcomes along two key performance metrics, the results of which will be shared.
