As alternative transcripts and comprehensive learner records (CLR) become prevalent and mainstream in education, the focus is often on employer needs and external-facing value. The primary beneficiary, however, is the student. Their knowledge and understanding how their learning experiences are evidence of attainment of marketable skills is ultimately what makes them competitive candidates in their career search. This session will discuss how bringing students front and center in the conversation around signaling via CLRs allowed the University of North Texas and Concentric Sky to envision a student-facing dashboard summarizing student progress and attainment of skills. We will discuss how a stacked credential model informed the student-facing dashboard views alongside the employer-facing CLR view. We will also discuss how leveraging the dashboard as a focal point for conversations encouraged faculty and staff to intentionally evaluate their curriculum for skills attainment opportunities and ultimately increase curricular transparency. Attendees will learn about the process of developing a stacked-microcredential model and leverage technology tools (Badgr pathways, badges, etc.) to operationalize the credential.Attendees will learn about the value of focusing on students as a way to garner interest and investment in an evaluation and assessment structure from university stakeholders.Attendees will learn about how as successful vendor/purchaser relationship allowed for innovation and the development of user-focused tools to track and share evidence of learning.
