While the proliferation of data in the digital learning ecosystem has created numerous opportunities for efficiency in interoperability, it has not fully reached its potential in facilitating a deeper understanding of student or institutional effectiveness and behaviors. In other words: We have a lot of data -- so how do we make sense of it? At the beginning of 2020 IMS established a new exploratory task force to develop a global core data model for student learning spanning K-12 and HED. The stated goal is to define a common data model across the global edtech ecosystem to help institutions ensure that they are getting data they can interpret from the products they procure. More than two dozen edtech suppliers and numerous institutions and districts have joined the task force. This session will provide an overview of the initiative, an update on the progress of the task force, and a roadmap for going forward.
