HED Executive Session: Academic and IT Innovating Together to Impact Student Success
The current push for digital transformation is going to require coordination, collaboration and alignment between all the key stakeholders on campus. Does your campus have established channels of communication that enables the critical flow of information between academics and IT? Is there a joint playbook on how your institution will get to the future of education? Is there a stable partnership between the CAO and CIO to ensure they are on the same page and pulling together? Join a gathering of institutional leaders for an interactive day of discussion and planning to help your campus tackle the disruptive challenges of evolving an interoperable digital ecosystem for teaching and learning. The HED Executive Session is designed for C-level institutional officers and their staff, from both IMS Global member and non-member institutions, to address industry-wide topics, and share new approaches that will help drive a healthy digital learning environment.

This is a closed session for educational executives and senior level officers (Presidents, Provosts, etc.) on a first come, first serve basis. There is no cost, but interested attendees must indicate when registering if they will attend to reserve a seat.

ASU & Yellowdig: A Symbiotic Digital Partnership from Actionable Research
Traditional online “discussions” have always spurred little genuine conversation, which is especially detrimental for online programs where opportunities for promoting student engagement are limited.  EdPlus at Arizona State University and Yellowdig saw this problem as a major pitfall in higher ed and began a partnership in Spring 2015 to address it. The partnership has grown tenfold over the past 4 years. Based on thorough research conducted throughout the partnership, Yellowdig has made immense improvements to its product to greater engage and retain students. This presentation will focus on the history of this symbiotic partnership, where we are taking it in the future, and present results from one example of our commitment to actionable research, an efficacy report investigating Yellowdig behaviors and grades for over 20,000 students from Arizona State University.

CBE, Equity of Learning, and Erasing 'Speedism' Through Technology
"Knowledge, being necessary to good government and the happiness of mankind, schools and the means of education shall forever be encouraged” (Continental Congress, 1787). Even before the Constitution was ratified, education has been recognized as a national priority. Since then, noteworthy efforts have been made to improve access and its relative, equity, but much remains to be done. This session looks at equity through a different lens — one that exposes time as its enemy. Perhaps because time is so easily tracked that its use as measure of higher learning is so pervasive, but there’s a problem. It’s wrong. Even when the college entrance doors are wide open and adequate financial resources are available, time-constrained programs and systems perpetuate inequity. We can do better. With competency-based design, delivery and assessment, the inequities of time disappear and we can step closer to equitable access.

A Look Back at EDU@2020
Richard N. Katz was the Vice President of Educause from 1996-2010. As he was transitioning away from his role in Educause he decided to make a video about the future of education and how it would change from the mid-2000s through 2020. Like all forward-looking predictions, it was semi-serious fun and intended to make the viewer think about the possibilities. This presentation will show a rare archive/bootleg copy of the video (it was originally only available using RealVideo) and reflect on the predictions that have come true and look at some of the predictions that have not yet come true.

Board members are comprised of vice-provosts, CIOs, and other institutional administrators who are IMS Global Contributing Members.
